The US is losing its' long-held leadership in the new ideas - innovations -inventions area. India and China are advancing rapidly in this area as are smaller countries like Korea. It is often alleged that these countries are stealing many of their new ideas and concepts from the U.S...........but is this really true or are we just becoming a lttle lethargic as the US ages?
A change or improvement or new idea is only an innovation when it is put to use and effectively causes a social or commercial reorganization. So, "innovation" is to be understood as the successful introduction of something new and useful. Proceeding further, innovations could be new or altered products or services.
Obviously, innovation may have positive or negative results.
In recent years, I have been disappointed to see the apparent loss of much of the innovation ability in the US. During Hurricane Katrina, the US Government, the Louisiana State Government and the New Orleans City governments had trouble even developing systems to deliver bottles of water to suffering citizens. The governments appeared to be brain-dead!
Over the past decade in Louisiana, I was involved in the coastal restoration program which is important to Louisiana because of the average annual loss to erosion of 30 acres of valuable coastal wetlands. Although the program had many successes, I saw examples of where a little innovation would have measurably helped. > Planning and Strategy.
Ideas - Innovations - Inventions: Conclusions
The US is losing its leadership in developing new ideas and innovations and Inventions. Can we recover?
